When you’re looking to rent a car, you might also need a few accessories to go along with that car rental. Maybe you’re traveling with children, but don’t want to lug a car seat onto the plane. Or maybe you’re going skiing and need somewhere to put your equipment. Whatever your needs are, many car rental companies are now offering car rental accessories to go along with the vehicles that they offer.

Child Car Seats

Whether you need an infant seat, a toddler’s car seat, or a booster seat, many companies are now offering these as a car rental accessory for an additional fee. This is not only great when you want to reduce your luggage load, but also if you’re not sure of a country’s requirements before you arrive.

Ski and Equipment Racks

More popular in areas where there is a great deal of skiing, canoeing, or other outdoor activities, these racks can be a great way to take all your stuff with you, and see more of the area you’re visiting!

Non-Smoking Vehicles

In many parts of the world, smoking is very common and it’s almost unheard of that someone would request a non-smoking car. In other parts of the world, a non-smoking car would be the standard so always be sure to ask, and request a non-smoking car if needed.

Additional Drivers

While you may not think of your husband or wife as an “accessory,” car rental companies usually do. You can add them to your plan, but it will cost an additional charge.

GPS Devices

Many car rental companies offer cars that have GPS devices installed right within them. However if they don’t, they can often offer you one of these at an extra cost.

These are just a few of the car rental accessories that you might be offered when you choose to rent a car. Always be sure to check with the car rental company you end up choosing so you don’t miss out on something that could make your trip even better!

Tower Bridge and Tower of London

Among all of the historic sites and iconic features of London, Tower Bridge and Tower of London stand out.

The Tower Bridge is a London tourist favorite with the walkway high above the River Thames and its working as a bascule (draw) bridge to this day. The Tower of London is steeped in history as it extends back to before the year 1100 and any visitor who is a fan of English history makes it a must see. Comparatively, the Tower Bridge is a new attraction, where the Tower of London is a historical treasure.

The Tower Bridge was completed in 1894 spanning the River Thames. It is a working bridge that still allows tall ships to pass through the open bridge. It also has a walkway 140 feet above the river. And with the vehicle traffic, bicyclists, and pedestrians it has over 40,000 that use or visit it daily.

The Tower of London had its foundation started in 1066 and has been ever expanding since. The first major addition was by William the Conqueror in 1078. Since that time the Who’s Who of British Royalty and history has had a hand in the tower’s history. Richard the Lionheart and Edward I had expansions given, Queen Elizabeth I was held in the tower before here ascension, and Henry the VIII had a remodel done. This is in addition to its many uses over time such as a fortress, a mint, a palace, a prison, and a treasury to name a few.

When visiting London the Tower Bridge and Tower of London are must see attractions.

Tower Bridge Car Hire

Finding cheap car hire options in the Tower Bridge location of London can be difficult, since so many historic and tourist attractions exist nearby. However, this does not mean it is impossible to find what you need. Several companies operate in the area including Avis, Thrifty, and Alamo, and the deals you can get depend on the car you want to hire as well as the length you will be needed to use it.

For the best advice, you would be wise to book ahead of time so the car is available when you need it. This way when you arrive to your destination, you can immediately have the car ready for your use. If this is impossible, the next best thing is to book the car as soon as you arrive. There are terminals that will assist you with booking and if you have any questions, you can ask nearby attendants for assistance.

Booking several days in advance will net you the best return on your investment, since if you play it by ear and hire on a per day basis, you are generally charged more than what you would pay if you paid for the same block of time in a lump sum. Aside from this, keep in mind the type of car you want to use. If it’s just you, try an be economical by hiring a coupe, but if you need a four door sedan, for family or business, stay on the smaller end of cars. Remember, the more petrol the car uses, the higher your rental cost will be.

The best way to travel around London is by driving. Think of it this way; even seasoned Londoners can have difficulty navigating the public transport system when they want to go somewhere different; and these are people who live and breathe the city life! What chance to any of us have when we arrive in this rather bewildering place with lights and movement everywhere and a bunch of people who really don’t care who you are or where you’re going, just as long as you don’t get in their way or stop them from going about their busy lives? It is madness to think that, upon arrival in not only a strange city but a strange country full stop, you will be able to get yourself around like a native – it just will not happen.

By driving everywhere you will save yourself a heck of a lot of stress and difficulty in getting yourself around. Everything is so much more accessible and you aren’t bound by any schedules and timetables – allowing you to go at your own pace. You will be able to park at all the main museums and sights in the city; at places like Tower Bridge. With many car parks in and around the area for a very fair price you will not have any trouble in finding a car parking space that allows you to be within an easy walking distance of the most iconic parts of London. Why would you want to restrict yourself to the public transport routes when you can explore one of the most vibrant cities in the world at your own pace?

Tower Bridge Car Rental

Everybody who visits London also visits Tower Bridge. No trip to the capital is complete without seeing the bridge in action; rising high into the air in order to let a ship pass smoothly underneath. It is a joy to behold and a massive thumbs up to the Victorian engineers who were able to design and build such an amazing contraption that still works over 130 years on. Indeed, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that you will decide to visit this monument almost as soon as you arrive in the city; after all, it is situated in the heart of London and can be incorporated into a lovely stroll along the river. It’s central location makes it incredibly accessible and means that there is little, if any difficulty in navigating yourself to and from the bridge.

However, this is not the case for all the sights in London. Whilst it may be easy to get to Tower Bridge, it is much more difficult to get to some of the other places by train. If, for example, you wanted to visit Madame Tussauds waxwork museum. This isn’t within an easy transport journey from the bridge but it would be foolish to miss out because of that! Instead, make sure that you hire a car from Tower Bridge. That way, you can have your walk on the river and then leap in a car and drive to all the famous sites in the city; what could be better than that?

Tower Bridge London

Construction on the bridge started in 1886 and took eight years to complete. Two massive piers, containing over 70,000 tons of concrete, were sunk into the riverbed to support the construction. Over 11,000 tons of steel provided the framework for the towers and walkways. This was then clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone, both to protect the underlying steelwork and to give the bridge a pleasing appearance. The bridge was officially opened on 30 June 1894 by The Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII), and his wife, The Princess of Wales (Alexandra of Denmark).

The bridge connected Iron Gate, on the north bank of the river, with Horsleydown Lane, on the south – now known as Tower Bridge Approach and Tower Bridge Road, respectively. Until the bridge was opened, the Tower Subway – 400 m to the west – was the shortest way to cross the river from Tower Hill to Tooley Street in Southwark. Opened in 1870, Tower Subway was the world’s first underground (‘tube’) railway, but closed after just three months and was re-opened as a pedestrian foot tunnel. Once Tower Bridge was open, the majority of foot traffic transferred to using the bridge, there being no toll to pay to use it. Having lost most of its income, the tunnel was closed in 1898. Tower Bridge is one of five London bridges now owned and maintained by the Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is the only one of the Trust’s bridges not to connect the City of London to the Southwark bank, the northern landfall being in Tower Hamlets.
